Tracey Concrete granted approval for precast concrete facility

Tracey Concrete

Tracey Concrete, a leading producer of aggregates, ready mixed concrete and concrete products based in Northern Ireland, has been granted approval to construct a precast concrete manufacturing facility in Belcoo, Northern Ireland.

Consent was obtained last month (March 2024), and the proposed facility will be situated within its existing Belcoo Quarry.

With operations across the UK and Ireland, Tracey Concrete specialises in a range of concrete products, including Concrete Pipes, Concrete Manholes, Manhole Rings, Jacking Pipes, Headwalls and Cattle Slabs.

Established nearly 80 years ago, the quarry was acquired by Tracey Concrete in 2018 after passing through different ownerships, including Acheson & Glover, a landscaping products company. The site currently holds planning permission for mineral extraction and operation until 2090.

Covering an area of 2,880 m², the primary building of the new facility spans dimensions of 40m x 48m x 12.8m high, with an additional 312 m2 structure designated for the Rebar Store. The production process will involve mould filling with self-compacting concrete, demoulding and removal of finished hardened precast concrete products to the stockyard.

Currently, production is focussed at Tracey Concrete’s Sligo Road site in Enniskillen, the aggregates for which are transported from Belcoo Quarry, a distance of around 10 miles. The new proposal is part of the company’s strategic and sustainability plans to focus development away from Enniskillen and instead focus production at Belcoo in the long-term.

The recent planning approval follows a previous consent granted in September 2021 for a Concrete Products manufacturing facility at Belcoo Quarry. Operating within the established working parameters for the quarry, the factory will run from 07:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday, with reduced hours on Saturdays from 07:00 to 13:00.
