Global equipment alliance calls for action on low-carbon machinery

The Global Alliance for Construction Equipment (GACE) has called on governments to support the adoption of low-carbon machinery by investing in supporting infrastructure, harmonising international standards, and introducing incentives on public projects.

In a recent position statement, GACE committed to promoting new technologies that reduce emissions from construction machinery, including electric, hybrid, hydrogen, and alternative-fuel systems. It also highlighted the need for global alignment on performance, safety and emissions standards for non-road mobile machinery.

Formed in 2020, GACE represents the global construction equipment industry and brings together six regional trade associations: AEM (USA), CECE (Europe), CCMA (China), CEMA (Japan), I-CEMA (India) and KOCEMA (South Korea). Its members include manufacturers of concrete mixers, pumps, formwork systems and material handling equipment.

The alliance is also calling for:

  • Government-backed investment in charging and hydrogen fuelling networks
  • Mandatory interest on late payments and reporting of overdue invoices
  • Incentives in public procurement to encourage adoption of low-emission plant
  • Support for the development and deployment of new clean technologies

GACE says its members are ready to scale up innovation but need the right regulatory environment and infrastructure to match growing demand for cleaner, safer equipment on global construction sites.
