Minebea Intec boosts load cell production

Minebea Intec’s new 2-tonne dead load testing machine will enhance precision and shorten delivery times for global customers. Minebea Intec’s new 2-tonne dead load testing machine will enhance precision and shorten delivery times for global customers.

Minebea Intec has invested a seven-figure sum in its Hamburg plant to increase production of high-precision load cells, a key component in weighing and batching systems for concrete and other industrial applications.

The investment covers two major upgrades: a fully automated 2-tonne dead load testing machine, capable of calibrating 32 load cells simultaneously to stringent OIML R60 standards, and a new turning centre for machining components to high tolerances. Together, the improvements will increase output, reduce lead times, and strengthen quality assurance.

Load cells are central to accurate weighing in concrete batching plants, silos, hoppers and mixers, helping producers meet tighter quality and sustainability targets. For UK concrete producers, reliable load cells are vital in reducing waste, ensuring consistent mix designs and supporting the industry’s carbon-reduction agenda.

Dr Olaf Krusemark, head of industrial engineering at Minebea Intec, said: “With our two new machines, we can reduce production costs, increase efficiency and improve quality. These investments underline our commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.”

Minebea Intec supplies digital and analogue load cells, weigh modules and weighing electronics to customers worldwide, including manufacturers of mobile and static concrete batching plants such as those operating in the UK market. The company is part of the Japan-based MinebeaMitsumi Group, which reported consolidated net sales of ¥1.52 trillion (€9.3 billion/£7.8 billion) in 2025.

CEO Dr Karl Sommer added: “By modernising our production facilities, we can not only meet growing demand, but also increase our competitiveness and efficiency.”
