Heidelberg Materials has strengthened its presence in the Canadian market by acquiring the assets of Calgary-based Concrete Crushers Inc. (CCI), the city’s largest concrete recycling business. The deal supports the company’s strategy to grow sustainably while advancing the circular economy across North America.

The acquisition includes a recycled aggregates yard in Southeast Calgary and a contract crushing operation with four mobile plants, enhancing Heidelberg Materials’ ability to serve a fast-growing urban market with circular solutions.

“This bolt-on acquisition is another great example of how we combine growth and sustainability,” said Chris Ward, CEO of Heidelberg Materials North America and a member of the Heidelberg Materials managing board. “It expands our footprint in an attractive region and advances our focus on sustainable and circular products.”

The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Heidelberg Materials, one of the world’s largest suppliers of cement, aggregates and ready-mixed concrete, has been ramping up its investment in sustainable technologies and business models. Its acquisition of CCI follows the recent purchase of Giant Cement Holding Inc. on the US East Coast, where the company is scaling its use of waste-derived fuels.

The Calgary move aligns with Heidelberg’s global strategy of portfolio optimisation and value creation through sustainability, digitalisation and technical excellence.
