Bauer MAT marks 35 years of slurry handling innovation
Bauer MAT Slurry Handling Systems is celebrating 35 years of innovation in slurry mixing, materials handling and separation technology for specialist foundation engineering and tunnelling.
Part of Bauer Maschinen, the Allgäu-based business has expanded its production capacity and modernised its logistics operations, setting the stage for continued growth in sustainable and digitalised construction equipment.
Founded in 1990, Bauer MAT has developed more than 1,000 desanding and separation plants used worldwide for preparing bentonite and cement-based slurries — materials essential for diaphragm walls, bored piles, and tunnelling. Its systems are widely used on major European infrastructure projects, including HS2, Tideway and Crossrail, helping to maintain slurry quality and improve performance in deep foundation and underground concrete works.
Recent advances include energy-efficient plant designs, automated data capture, and “second-life” refurbishment concepts that reduce waste and extend equipment lifespan. The latest models — such as the BE 300 desanding plant, CMS batch mixers, and IPA 250-E injection plant — feature digital monitoring for real-time operational insights, minimising downtime and enhancing site productivity.
Bauer MAT’s expanded production facility now has the capacity to manufacture over 250 units annually, reflecting strong demand from the global tunnelling and foundation markets. The company continues to invest in sustainability initiatives, reducing reliance on diesel-powered systems and streamlining its supply chain for faster delivery.
Product manager Kurt Ostermeier said that sustainability and digitalisation remain central to Bauer MAT’s strategy, with new systems offering measurable energy savings and improved lifecycle efficiency.
