Holcim launches sustainable construction learning hub

Holcim UK has launched an online learning platform to help upskill construction professionals in sustainable building practices, as part of its wider push to accelerate low-carbon construction across the UK.

The Holcim Sustainable Construction Academy provides access to a range of CPD-certified courses, developed in partnership with leading academic and industry bodies including ETH Zurich, the University of Cambridge, Canary Wharf Group, Arup and Ramboll. The 10-module curriculum is aimed at learners across all knowledge levels, from beginners to intermediate, and covers topics such as embodied carbon, circular construction, and materials innovation.

According to Holcim, the aim is to support customers, suppliers and the wider sector in adopting regenerative practices through flexible, self-paced training. Holcim team members are also being encouraged to complete modules, reinforcing the company’s internal commitment to sustainable skills development.

Anh Nguyen, specification manager at Holcim UK, said the programme is already having a direct impact on her work. “The second module – which covers the life cycle stages of construction projects and products – has been particularly useful, going into granular detail about some of the specific work I’m already doing for clients,” she said. “Achieving sustainability really relies on understanding how sustainable practices actually work.”

Luke Olly, head of decarbonisation at Holcim UK, added: “As a sustainability professional, I know there’s always more to learn. I was surprised by the variety of modules – some are ideal for newcomers, while others go into much more depth. It supports professionals at all levels who want to play a role in transforming the industry.”
