The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has announced a new programme of courses at its National Construction College (NCC) sites across the UK this September, with a focus on scaffolding, safety and plant training.

Highlights include:

  • Kwikstage Base – Basic Access System Erector (Scotland, 8–12 Sept)
  • CISRS Scaffolding Part 2 – Tube & Fitting (England South, 8–19 Sept)
  • Health & Safety Awareness (Peterborough, 9 Sept)
  • CDM Principal Contractors (Online, 10 Sept)
  • Excavation Support Category 5 (England East, 15–17 Sept)
  • CISRS Advanced Scaffolding (England East, 15–26 Sept)
  • Temporary Works Supervisors (England South, 22 Sept)
  • CPCS Telescopic Handler A17 (England East, 22–26 Sept)

The National Construction College is the UK’s largest provider of specialist construction training, delivering courses designed to improve competence, site safety and productivity across the industry.

For the concrete construction sector, these programmes cover key areas such as temporary works supervision, excavation support, scaffolding erection and plant operation — all critical skills for major infrastructure and precast projects.

Details of courses and booking information are available via CITB’s NCC page.

Relevance to the concrete sector

  • Excavation Support (Category 5)
Critical for groundworks, piling, and foundations where temporary shoring and excavation safety underpin concrete placement.
  • Temporary Works Supervisors
Essential for managing formwork, falsework, scaffolding and shoring systems on concrete projects, ensuring compliance with BS 5975.
  • CISRS Scaffolding (Part 2 & Advanced)
Scaffolding is vital for safe access in high-rise pours, precast erection and concrete repair works.
  • CPCS Telescopic Handler (A17)
Telescopic handlers are widely used for moving rebar, precast elements, and formwork systems on concrete sites.
