Global scaffolding body launches

Founders of the International Access and Scaffolding Association at ScaffEx25 in Manchester NASC announced the creation of the International Access and Scaffolding Association at ScaffEx25 in Manchester

A new international body has been launched to represent the scaffolding and access sector worldwide.

The International Access and Scaffolding Association (IASA) was formally established during ScaffEx25 in Manchester, in what organisers described as "the most significant global development in the industry for half a century".

The initiative has been led by the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC), with trade associations from overseas joining under the new umbrella organisation. IASA aims to provide a single international voice for a sector it says is critical to the delivery of construction, infrastructure and industrial projects worldwide.

IASA has identified five areas for collective action:

  • improving the image of scaffolding as a professional, skilled trade
  • developing global talent and creating clearer career pathways
  • driving innovation and sustainable solutions
  • strengthening compliance and raising safety standards
  • standardising training to support workforce mobility.

Wayne Connolly, president of NASC, said: “The formation of IASA marks a turning point for our industry. For the first time, the world’s leading scaffolding and access associations are working together with a united purpose: to champion our sector, elevate standards, and secure its rightful recognition as critical to the success of projects everywhere.”

According to NASC, IASA will act as a hub for collaboration across continents, building stronger relationships between industry leaders, contractors, educators, regulators and clients.

Outreach to further countries is expected in the coming months as the association works to expand its global membership.
