Precast foundation system for 46-home build

RBL's sustainable precast foundation system in use for Dundas’ residential development in Bishopton, Scotland. RBL has delivered a sustainable precast foundation system for Dundas’ residential development in Bishopton, Scotland.

Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL) has delivered a complete precast foundation package for a 46-unit residential development in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, using its in-house engineered piling and beam system to meet challenging ground conditions and sustainability targets.

Working in partnership with developer Dundas, RBL installed over 500 driven precast concrete piles and 1,500 linear metres of its RBeam precast ground beam system across the site. The solution was tailored to support a mix of semi-detached and terraced homes, including affordable units, on land underlain by soft silts and clays of the Linwood Paisley Formation.

Piles were driven to depths of up to 20 m to reach stable ground, avoiding the need for trench fill foundations and allowing for faster, cleaner construction. RBL’s driven precast piling method offered both structural efficiency and minimal disruption, with standardised components manufactured off-site at the company’s facility.

The low-carbon concrete mix used in the piles and beams, along with a reduction in on-site waste and lorry movements, contributes to the project’s overall environmental credentials.

Gavin Hay, Scotland area manager at Roger Bullivant Limited, said: “We are pleased to work with Dundas to deliver a high-quality, sustainable foundation solution for this residential development. Our precast system not only provides a reliable foundation but also supports the industry's drive towards lower-carbon construction methods.”

RBL’s Scotland team led the planning and delivery of the works, reinforcing the company’s expertise in residential foundation engineering and its commitment to efficient, sustainable ground solutions.
