Webuild’s US subsidiary Lane Construction has completed work on a major upgrade of Interstate 275 in Florida, delivering key concrete and structural improvements to support the region’s growing transport needs.

The I-275 Section 7 Phase 1 project involved widening lanes, installing energy-efficient lighting and advanced signage, and enhancing visibility and safety across the corridor. The $350 million (£275 million) scheme serves as a vital connector in the Tampa Bay area, linking neighbourhoods and business hubs across a stretch of one of Florida’s busiest highways.

A total of 20,000 cubic yards (15,291 m³) of plain cement concrete pavement was placed to expand the roadway, while more than 1,500 cubic yards (1,147 m³) was used in substructure and superstructure work across six widened bridges. In addition, around 16,000 cubic yards (12,237 m³) of Class II concrete was used for the construction of 4.7 miles of sound barrier walls designed to mitigate noise in surrounding urban areas.

Despite challenging urban conditions and tight work zones, Lane introduced a cost savings initiative (CSI) that helped reduce costs for the Florida Department of Transportation. The project also featured structural enhancements such as backup power systems for monitoring equipment to maintain operability during extreme weather events.

Lane is currently delivering multiple road infrastructure contracts in Florida and the southeastern US, including the I-275/I-4 Downtown Tampa Interchange, Westshore Interchange upgrades, and widening projects on the Seminole Expressway and I-4.

The wider Webuild Group has delivered over 82,000 km of roads and highways globally and continues to support US infrastructure renewal with ongoing work on the I-64 Hampton Roads Express Lanes in Virginia, the I-440 Beltline Widening in North Carolina, and 495 NEXT in Washington D.C. metro area.

This latest milestone adds to Webuild’s growing US portfolio and reflects its strategic commitment to modernising transport infrastructure with resilient, long-life concrete and structural systems.
