Boral expands footprint with acquisition of Wallan Concrete plant
Boral has announced the acquisition of the Wallan Concrete plant, located approximately 45 kilometres north of Melbourne, in a move that strengthens the company’s ability to service construction projects in one of Victoria’s fastest growing areas.
The newly built dry batch facility, situated adjacent to the Hume Freeway, is strategically positioned to support Boral’s integrated network of operations and will complement its existing concrete batching plant and quarry in nearby Wollert.
Matt McKenzie, Boral’s executive general manager for concrete and quarries south, said the acquisition aligned with the company’s long-term growth plans for Melbourne’s northern corridor.
“We know the long-term growth projection in Melbourne, particularly to the north, is strong, and Wallan Concrete’s proximity to the market makes it well-positioned to service existing and future customers,” said McKenzie. “The plant is practically brand new, and we’re very excited to welcome this great asset into our network, along with its potential to supply key projects in the region.”
The Wallan site includes four cementitious silos, 10 ground bins for raw materials, a modern office with driver amenities, and undercover truck parking. The facility operates six days a week and sits on freehold land.
Boral has also confirmed that the existing workforce will transfer to the company, supporting continued employment in the region. Staff were officially welcomed with a company-hosted lunch and visit from Boral executives.
The acquisition comes as Boral continues to invest in strategic assets to enhance supply capacity and service delivery for key infrastructure and development projects across Australia.
