Holcim UK plans twin concrete plants in North Ayrshire
A planning application was submitted in May 2025 by Holcim UK, formerly known as Aggregate Industries, for two new concrete batching plants at the southern end of the Hunterston PARC site in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The proposed location, bordered by Poteath Road and brownfield land, is expected to support significant new developments across the energy and marine campus in Hunterston.
The project will be designed to efficiently supply concrete for the extensive construction planned across the 142-hectare energy and marine campus and will see each batching plant equipped with an aggregate hopper, four silos for cement and additives, a mixer tower, an aggregate weighing and transfer system amongst other facilities including material storage bays.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2025 with completion two years after. Materials utilised by the site will include sand, delivered by sea from Holcim UK’s Glensanda site in Oban, and cement and admixtures delivered by road. The site anticipates nine daily cement/GGBS tanker deliveries and bi-weekly admixture deliveries.
