Brett Concrete powers Felixstowe logistics hub build
Brett Concrete has completed a major supply contract for the Orwell Logistics Park in Felixstowe, supporting the construction of over one million square feet of warehouse space across a 60-acre development.
Located near the Port of Felixstowe, the site consists of three large-scale industrial units ranging from 250,000 to 500,000 square feet—each equivalent to up to seven football pitches under one roof. The final warehouse, a 500,000 square foot facility, marked the second phase of construction and was recently completed with extensive input from Brett Concrete.
Over a seven-week period, Brett delivered approximately 10,000m³ of concrete to the site, supplying material for external yards, structural pillars, slabs and internal flooring. The pours averaged 400m³ per day during winter conditions, requiring a coordinated effort across multiple batching plants in the region.
“With a build of this size, it was important we kept a continuous flow of concrete to the site to maintain workability – which meant delivering every day for seven weeks,” said George Jarvis, plant supervisor at Brett’s Ipswich site. “It was a real team effort, with support from plants as far as Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells. Our drivers did a brilliant job keeping everything moving smoothly.”
All three logistics buildings have now been leased by Sizewell C, which will use them to store and manage equipment needed for the new nuclear power station under construction nearby.
Scott Mclellan, senior operations supervisor at Brett Concrete, added: “Supplying pours of around 400m³ every day in the height of winter is a significant challenge. It was a great team effort by everyone involved at the Ipswich central site – we can all look back with pride at the success of this project.”
