Manchester Galvanizing invests £350k in new transfer system
Manchester Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has completed a £350,000 investment in a new automated transfer system at its Heywood plant, improving operational efficiency, safety, and coating consistency across the galvanizing process.
The system streamlines the movement of steel through pre-treatment and hot-dip galvanizing, reducing manual handling while ensuring a more uniform zinc coating — a critical factor in the long-term durability of steel reinforcement and structural components used throughout the concrete sector.
Mark Waters, commercial manager at Manchester Galvanizing, said: “This new system will further enhance plant efficiency and create extra capacity, enabling us to meet growing demand while continuing to deliver the high-quality finish our customers rely on.”
Wedge Group Galvanizing operates 14 plants nationwide, offering a full national service to the UK construction and manufacturing industries. The company’s focus on process automation and sustainable growth aligns with the wider industry’s drive to improve materials protection, coatings performance, and lifecycle sustainability in reinforced concrete, precast manufacturing, and infrastructure projects.
By reducing energy use, minimising waste, and extending the lifespan of galvanized steel, such investments support lower-carbon, longer-lasting construction systems — ensuring structural integrity and resilience across the built environment.
