PERI systems power Vienna’s soaring DC Tower 2
Work is progressing rapidly on DC Tower 2, the latest addition to Vienna’s skyline and one of Austria’s tallest buildings, thanks to a suite of concrete formwork and scaffolding systems supplied by PERI. Rising to 174 metres and due for completion in 2026, the high-rise is being built by contractor PORR AG, with ongoing site support from PERI Austria.
Designed to complement its neighbouring structure, DC Tower 1, the revised scheme features a 30-storey office tower with over 300 residential units above 102 metres, as well as catering and co-working areas at ground level. A key sustainability feature is its photovoltaic-integrated façade – a first for European high-rise buildings.
PERI’s MAXIMO panel formwork and SKYDECK slab formwork were used up to the sixth floor, enabling fast, safe, and energy-efficient concrete placement for walls and slabs. From that point, PERI’s RCS rail climbing system took over, allowing the team to maintain a 5-day cycle per floor.
To supply the building’s concrete core and structural elements, a 36-metre-radius concrete distributor was deployed, supported by a hydraulic climbing system that efficiently moved platforms upward using guided rails. The building core was divided into four work zones for improved coordination, and all climbing units arrived preassembled to minimise on-site build time.
Formwork panels were precision-set using a carriage system, and PERI’s climbing protection panels delivered vital wind and fall protection. A combined passenger and materials hoist – with a 2-tonne capacity – provided vertical access for site teams working across multiple levels.
Modular scaffolding from the PERI UP system supported daily concrete works, while edge protection was provided by PROKIT quick-fit systems. PERI’s on-site service team and experienced erector supported the build throughout, ensuring a safe and streamlined construction process.
Othmar Laister, senior site manager at Porr AG, said: “From the very outset, the collaboration was excellent. We were totally satisfied, both with the technical development and with the service on site.”
